Hey everyone,
This is Capt. Ralph Griffin of the “Chainlink”. I hope everyone has had a happy and productive winter. With spring quickly approaching, I’m looking forward to an exciting fishing season. The boat is currently hauled out for yearly maintenance, but we’re planning on starting our fishing year the first weekend in March.
We typically catch tuna, dolphin, wahoo and mackerels through May.
May brings the start of our tournament season and the billfish start showing up, as well as, continued excellent catches of tuna, dolphin and wahoo.
June thru August is typically our best marlin and dolphin fishing, with decent catches of tuna, dolphin and wahoo possible.
Fall fishing, Sept. thru Nov. has historically provided excellent wahoo fishing.
Starting with our first trip, I will be posting a weekly fishing report to keep you up to date on what we’re catching. If you have any questions concerning a trip aboard the Chainlink, please feel free to call me @ 252-216-7058 or you can email me: captainrfgriffin@hotmail.com.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ralph Griffin

The fishing for the 4th of July weekend was extremely HOT!
Friday the charter caught 1 white marlin and a tuna.
Sunday the charter was able to catch and release 2 blue marlin and a white marlin! They also caught 6 gaffer dolphin and saw 6 other white marlin and 1 blue one.
Tuesday the Chainlink was back in the thick of it catching 1 white marlin and a sailfish. We were so close to the slam, but the only blue one we saw did not stay on the line. We also saw 5 other white marlin. I would say the marlins won tuesday 8 - 2.

Wow. The Big Rock week was a big week for the Chainlink. On Monday the Chainlink had a run of bad luck, having 3 big bites and hooking up with two of the fish for 2 - 3 minutes befor pulling the hook. Tuesday was the front edge of tropical storm Alberto. Fishing was slower for the Chainlink havinging only one run in with a white marlin and agian no luck with the hook-up. The bad weather came through Wed. and Thurs. Friday was a beutiful day of fishing that produced 4 gaffer dolphin. Then Saturday morning the fishing started at 8:00, we had the winning fish eating on the right teaser at about 8:40, Johnathan gave him a pitch bait and the rest is history.
It has been a great experiance! Thanks to everyone that has made this possible for us.

The Chainlink made it out on friday 5/5 and saturday 5/6 to find awesome fishing. On Friday the crowd racked up 16 nice yellowfin tuna, a 35 lbs wahoo, and 2 dolphin. One of the dolphin was a 38 lbs citation caught on a spinning reel! Saturday was another great day. The catch consisted of 12, 35lb - 50lb tuna and a dolphin. The fisherman, their friends and families will be eating good for a while! We are fishing Saturday and possibly Friday of this week. Hopefully the fishing and the weather will hold out.

The Chainlink and crew fished the spring Calcutta Wahoo Challenge over the weekend. Mr. Harvy Reinhardt managed to catch a 39.55 lbs wahoo on fri day along with three gaffer dolphin. Then saturday was was awful weather wise, but the Chainlink went out. The fishing was pretty slow agian, catching a small wahoo, a yellowfin, and a dolphin. Oh well I guess that is spring fishing in Morehead City, they are here one minute and gone the next. Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend and we can go fly the kite for Charlie Tuna.

Wanted to bring all of the Chainlink fans up to speed for the 2006 season.
Ralph Griffin has taken over the Captian position. We are very excited to have him on board!
The boat has undergone several upgrades this winter which include newly painted hull and topside, new teak cockpit decking, fighting chair, riggers, and much more. Come fishing with us this spring and check it out.

Finally some decent weather! This past week Mother Nature finally saw fit to allow us to get offshore and enjoy some of the great dolphin fishing that May brings to NC. Chain Link's five charters this week were able to enjoy some beautiful weather and good fishing that included some nice gaffer dolphin, a few wahoos, tunas, and even some nice grouper. Hopefully the trend will hold and future guests will be able to enjoy some quality time offshore.

After an action packed voyage to Cape Hatteras that included three hot blue marlin bites, Chain Link decided not to enter the Hatteras Village tournament due to a dismal weather forecast that included wind gusts of over 60 mph in Hatteras Harbor. The decision proved to be a wise one as we dealt with six foot seas and 40 knots of wind in the Neuse River on our way back to Morehead City via the Intercoastal Waterway. Nonetheless, Chain Link and her crew look forward to the next tournament during Memorial Day weekend.

Another cancellation today. All spring we have been plagued by very windy conditions offshore - especially on the weekends. Yesterday made nine Saturdays in a row that we've been forced to cancel on account of the weather.
Chain Link will be leaving Morehead City on Wednesday to go to Cape Hatteras and participate in the Hatteras Offshore Open. We hope to be posting some exciting photos and reports soon...

Today's charter caught three yellowfin tuna early on. After being assured of some fish for dinner, we spent the remainder of the day in search of the elusive blue marlin. Although we did not catch one, we were excited to see a nice blue marlin chasing small dolphin near the boat.
11:05:36
Today's charter was treated to some great fishing and boasted a box full of tunas and wahoos. One wahoo wighed 58 pounds and was caught by Peter Lennon of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
22:22:24
Today's charter managed to catch six nice yellowfins in the first hour of fishing only to see the action slow towards the end of the day. The final hour was spent bottom fishing and resulted in a nice red grouper and several other less significant species. All in all, a good day.

The inaugural voyage on board Chain Link proved successful as we managed a catch of 8 Yellowfin Tuna and two wahoos. One wahoo weighed in at 60 pounds giving Daryl Brower his first citation catch of the season. Looking forward to more great fishing this spring...
